DLSU plans to close gap with UST in UAAP Season 73

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers are planning to close the gap with perennial overall champions University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers in Season 73 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

UAAP President Bro. Bernard Oca FSC of DLSU admitted that UST remains a tough competitor in the yearly collegiate games.

“I think UST is still formidable,” Oca told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

UST cliched its 37th UAAP General Championship in Season 72 by scoring at total of 305 overall points in the men and women's seniors' division. DLSU, meanwhile, finished 2nd in the overall standings with a total of 252 points.

Oca said he hopes that DLSU will narrow the gap with the UAAP powerhouse this season.

“Hopefully be No. 2 and close the gap with UST,” he said.

DLSU is the host of the current UAAP season.

It launched its “heroes theme” for Season 73 during a media briefing at the North Wing Conservatory, DLSU in Manila last week.

Oca said that DLSU aims to “build on the past years’ successes and learn from experience” as it hosts the current UAAP season as part of the school’s centennial celebration.

He also hopes that DLSU can contribute to a “meaningful and well-run UAAP.”

Preparations and rehearsals are ongoing for the Opening Ceremony on July 10. La Salle alumni Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid and Enchong Dee will take part in the Opening Ceremony with Mark Reyes as director.
