RP jr netter Patrombon in main draw at Wimbledon

Jeson Patrombon earned a spot in the main draw of the Wimbledon Juniors Championship when organizers elevated him from probationary to direct acceptance in the third Grand Slam event of the year.

It was Patrombon’s second straight Grand Slam event after competing in the French Open Junior tournament at the Roland Garros Stadium in Paris, France.

Matches at Wimbledon will be held from June 21 to July 4 in London, England.

Coach Manny Tecson, who is accompanying Patrombon in his European tour, said the 17-year-old junior netter’s 43rd standing in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) world ranking earned for him a spot in the main draw.

At Roland Garros, Patrombon reached the second round after a 6-3, 6-1 win over Serbian Miki Jankovic. He failed to earn a spot in the Round of 16 after being eliminated by ninth seed Duilio Beretta of Peru, 6-2, 6-7 (7), 6-2.

Patrombon is now in Germany where he is going to compete in his final tournament on clay, the 18th International Junior Tournament of Offenbach/Main 2010, another ITF Grade I event.

Tecson said Patrombon is on the right track of reaching his goals and developing his game. "What we’re focusing now on our practice is a lot of approach and volley drills because I believe this will be the key to our success especially at Wimbledon."

Aside from Wimbledon, Patrombon could earn an invitation of playing in the Singapore Youth Olympic Games in August since he is expected to enter the Top 35 in the ITF junior rankings after his French Open stint.
