4 US-based Pinoys to play in California tour

Four US-based Pinoys will compete in the inaugural California Pool Players Tour (CPPT) in San Jose, California from June 12 to 13.

The CPPT tournament will take place at the California Billiards Club in Mountain View, California.

Leading the Filipino contingent is Jose “Amang” Parica of West Covina, California. Parica will enter the CPPT event as one of the favorites.

The other Pinoy players competing here are Santos Sambajon, Ramon Mistica and Jun Almoite, who all hailed from Quezon City, Philippines.

Sambajon is now residing in Chicago, Illinois; Mistica in Fremont, California; and Almoite just moved to Los Angeles from Sacramento, California last year. They are all seeded going to the tournament.

The CPPT is a new Pro-Am tour, offering a quality series of 9-ball tournaments in both Northern and Southern California.

The format, a race to 7, double elimination, may be new but organizers said it will level the playing field while increasing the competition for everyone.

Players are divided into 2 brackets, one for Pros and A players and one for B and C players, playing simultaneously until the Top 25% of each bracket is determined. The finalists will advance to a combined bracket for the cash payout round.

Almoite and Mistica are both sponsored by HUSTLIN USA owner Owner Tony Hargain. – by Marlon Bernardino
