Final 4 cast complete in preseason cage tourney

Far Eastern University (FEU), Adamson, Jose Rizal U and San Sebastian complete the Final Four cast of the 2010 FilOil Flying V Preseason Invitational Cup after beating their respective quarterfinal opponents on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Tamaraws had an easy 71-59 win over University of the Philippines while the Heavy Bombers hang tough to dispatch NCAA rival San Beda, 67-64.

FEU will next face Adamson after the Falcons scored a 66-59 upset of UAAP champion Ateneo while JRU battles NCAA titlist San Sebastian, an 84-76 winner over La Salle in the semifinals.

Guard RR Garcia, last season's most valuable player (MVP), scored 18 points for the Tams, who welcomed back their stars Aldrech Ramos and JR Cawaling.

Both players were loaned to the Smart Gilas RP team that saw them play in various competitions abroad. Their recent stint was in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup where the RP Team hopefuls finished seventh in Qatar.

The arrival of Ramos and Cawaling forced the Glenn Capacio-coached squad to make significant adjustments.

"The players were having a hard time adjusting to the return of JR (Cawaling) and Aldrech (Ramos)," said Capacio. "Sometimes, they were just waiting for what the two will do on the court."

Paul Sanga and Reil Cervantes added 12 and 11 points, each, for the Morayta-based squad.

RP team center Magi Sison had 11 points while Woody Co and Mike Silungan combined for 20 markers.

In the other game, the Heavy Bombers enjoyed a 14-point bubble in the second quarter but allowed the Red Lions to comeback and tie the game at 63-all before finally hanging on to claim a Final 4 seat.

Borgie Hermida led San Beda’s losing cause with 20 points. – JVP, GMANews.TV
